D. The United States hoped to benefit from problems in Latin America

Ongoing revolutions that had happened in many different Latin American countries at this time left them disorganized and unstable. United States-based companies and the government wanted to take advantage of the weakened states and profited from resources they had, which was a process that went on for a long time.

Answer: D

Explanation: This meant that whenever there was an attempt by any European country to involve itself in Latin America, the U.S. would try to prevent such an action from occurring.
