if a = b, c^a = c^b

make each side the exponent of 4

4^[log base4 (x+3)(x-3)] = 4^2

since a^(log basea b) = b, (think of the definition of logs as the inverse of exponents here)

(x+3)((x-3) = 16

x^2 -9 = 16x^2 = 25

x = 5 or -5
