Answer:

9.82 inches²

Explanation:

both areas are equally sized, so they are both half of the whole circle.

circle area : pi × r²

half of the circle area is therefore pi × r² / 2

the picture gives us the diameter of the circle, the radius is half of the diameter.

=> r = 5/2 = 2.5

=> shaded area = pi × r² / 2 = pi × (2.5)² / 2 = 9.82 inches²
