Sometimes the old man and the sea is named Joe DiMaggio by poet Ernest Hemingway. The legendary US baseball player Joe DiMaggio was wounded. Hemingway refers to DiMaggio, in order to highlight the hopes and aspirations of Santiago. The old man wants the impossible, like his idol DiMaggio.
