x = 12.12 cm

There are two ways to solve this triangle. We will be using the simpler, Pythagorean Theorem to solve for the missing side length -
a^(2)+b^(2)=c^(2)

'a' and 'b' are variables for regular side length legs, while 'c' is a variable for the hypotenuse.

7^(2)+x^(2) =14^(2)

x^(2) =196-49

x^(2) =147

x ≈ 12.12

Answer:

x =
√(147)

Explanation:

Using Pythagoras' identity in the right triangle

x² + 7² = 14²

x² + 49 = 196 ( subtract 49 from both sides )

x² = 147 ( take the square root of both sides )

x =
√(147) ≈ 12.1 ( to 1 dec. place )
