Explanation:

5x - y = 6 and -2x + y = 8

1/ 5x - y = 6

=> y = 5x - 6

2/ -2x + y = 8

Substitute 1/ into 2/ we will have:

-2x + (5x - 6) = 8

=> -2x + 5x - 6 = 8

=> 3x = 14

=> x =
(14)/(3) <=> y =
(52)/(3)

- However, the question asked for the final equation when adding 5x - y = 6 and -2x + y = 8 => The correct answer will be: 3x = 14

Answer:

3x = 14

Explanation:

Add the two equations.

5x + (-2x) = 3x

(-y) + y = 0

6 + 8 = 14

3x = 14.
