In the story, why did Susan B. Anthony not marry?​

Susan B. Anthony did not marry because she did not want to become a slave to her husband. In her time, if you married, you had to give the money you earned to you husband (if you were a woman). She did not need or want a husband. Anthony never married or had children, which at the time was considered an embarrassing circumstance for a woman to find herself in, but this was Anthony's own choice. Anthony said "I'm sure that no man could ever made me happier than I have been."
