You will need these materials:

1 compass (available wherever science lab supplies, educational science materials, or party supplies are sold)
1 bar magnet (must be strong enough to move the compass)
2 pieces of white paper, partially overlapped and taped together to make an 11-inch square
pen or pencil
Stay safe! Keep the magnet away from all electronic devices, including cell phones and computers. Do not carry out this activity if you have an implanted device that contains metal.

Part A
Bring the compass and the magnet near one another. Verify that they are both magnetic and interact with each other. Like poles should repel, and unlike poles should attract.
