2. Half of Robert's piece of wire is equal to of Maria's wire. The total length of their wires is 10 feet. How much longer is Robert's wire than Maria's?

Given that,

Half of Robert's piece of wire is equal to of Maria's wire i.e.


(R)/(2)=M ....(1)

Total length of the wires = 10 feet

ATQ,


R+M=10 ....(2)

Use equation (1) in (2).


R+(R)/(2)=10\\\\(3R)/(2)=10\\\\R=(20)/(3)\\\\R=6.67\ ft

So,


M=(6.67)/(2)\\\\M=3.33\ ft

Hence, this is the required solution.
