Which statement describes how urban life differed from rural life in America in the 1800s?

1. The city was more unsanitary, but it provided greater economic and cultural opportunities.
2. The city was less dangerous and generally cleaner, but it was much more crowded.
3. The city was less expensive to live in, but it provided people with tighter-knit communities.
4. The city was more exciting, but there were fewer jobs available and they paid lower wages.

Definately number 1.

The cities in the 1800s were absolutely NASTY to live in. Both pollution and generally just terribly kept roads and streets, the city was actually super unsanitary. Most noteably, people would dump their trash and even human waste outside and it wasn’t cleaned up.

Hope that helps!
