The number of electrons tranferered from the metallic atom to the non-metallic atom depends on the number of valence electrons that the metal possesses.

The fake ion Spoofium is a metallic element as indicated by the positive charge it carries whereas the ion, hoaxium, is non-metallic as it negatively charged. Spoofium will donate two electrons per atom while hoaxium will accept one electron per atom as indicated by the size of their charges.

When a compound is formed between Spoofium and Hoaxium, two hoaxium ions will be required to accept the two electrons of a Spoofium ion to form the compound, SpHx₂ as shown in the equation below:
