In sentences why can’t x^2+2x+12 cannot be factored

x^2+2x+12

This cannot be factored because you can'y take a number out.

This is factoring.
6x^2+4x+10=2(3x^2+2x+5)

This is not factoring.
x^2+5x+96=1(x^2+5x+96)
