The imperative
Imperative verb forms are used to give commands and make suggestions. Each verb has three
imperative forms that resemble the tu, nous and vous forms of the present tense. Here are the
imperative forms of regular -er, -ir and -re verbs.
. (Note that the tu imperative form of -er verbs
drops the final s.)
aider
Aide!
Aidons!
Aidez!
choisir
Choisis!
Choisissons!
Choisissez!
attendre
Attends!
Attendons!
Attendez!
Va dans
l'eau!
To form the negative imperative, put ne (n") before the
verb and pas after it.
N'allez pas tout droit! Don't go straight ahead!
