Explanation:

1 ) -5 + (-1) is -6, because they both have the same sign.

-6+7} when there is a negative and a postive, put the postive in front

so it will look like this 7-6 which is 1

2) 19+(-3) is basically 19-3, which is 16, and 16+6=22

Extra note:

when you see n+(-n), always remove the + sign and subtract

when you see -n+n, always switch the roles of the two

when you see -n+-n, remove the - sign and add it back later

when you see -n-n, think of -n+n
