Organisms that are carnivorous or omnivorous obtain their energy from secondary sources, which include other animals (as well as plants for omnivores). Omnivores and Herbivores obtain their energy from eating plants, which makes them a secondary source. The primary source would be the plants, which would obtain energy from the nutrients in the ground, as well as from sunlight. The sun, in which case, would be the original source.
