What was Japan doing during the 1930s and why? Increase there sphere influence on asians. Why did Japan attack Pearl Harbor, Hawaii on December 7, 1941? It intended to destroy important american fleet units, thereby preventing the pacific fleet from interfering with japanese conquest of the dutch east indies and malaya and to enable japan to conquer Southeast asia without interference.

3) Based on your outside knowledge, how did the United States react to this attack? (If you do not know, predict what you think happened.)

(already answer 1 and 2 that just to help you answer the question )

We declared war on Japan and joined in WWII. This is easily predictable as they legit attacked an entire American fleet. That’s essentially walking up to someone and shooting them in the knee and not expecting retaliation.
