Jason divides his first 1/2 mile of the trail into 3 sections. He puts a sign at the end of each section. If the signs are an equal distance apart, what is the distance between the second and third signs?

Answer:

1/6 mile

Explanation:

Distance divided = 1/2 miles

No of sections = 3

Each division must equal = 1/2/3

= 1/2*1/3 = 1/6 mile.

The distance between each of the signs i.e between the first and second , second and third is 1/6 of the mile.

This can be done in decimals as well

1/2 mile= 0.5 mile.

When we divide 0.5 mile by 3 we get 0.167 which is equal to 1/6 in fractions.
