Marques is deciding between two parking garages. Garage A charges an initial fee of $5 to park plus $3 per hour. Garage B charges an initial fee of $7 to park plus $2 per hour. Let AA represent the amount Garage A would charge if Marques parks for tt hours, and let BB represent the amount Garage B would charge if Marques parks for tt hours. Write an equation for each situation, in terms of t,t, and determine the interval of hours parked, t,t, for which Garage A is cheaper than Garage B.

Answer:

A = 5 + 3t

B = 7 + 2t

2 hours

Explanation:

7 + 2t > 5 +3t

(subtract 2t from both sides)

7 > 5 + t

(subtract 5 from both sides)

2 > t

therefore in 2 hours, the parking would be cheaper in Garage A than B
