How I found the 43/10 and 18/10 was that if you add the whole number and denominator and add the numerator then you get your sum fraction(s). 43/10 and 18/5.
Since both the original fractions above have a denominator of 10, the final sum will also have a denominator of 10. If you take your calculator and put in 43/10 + 18/5 and hit the = button, you should get 79/10 = 7 9/10.
