While there may have been some tribes that joined the American cause, many of them joined the British cause, as Great Britain had promised them before that they would not allow for US settlers to move westward anymore. In turn, when war broke out, they asked those Native American tribes to join them in their cause of putting down the revolt. However, that is not to say that none helped the Americans, as there were tribes such as the Oneida and Tuscanora that helped the US in their war for independence. So essentially, it just depends on the tribes perspective, and at the end, which one garnered the lesser amount of support.
