The governors of states would side with the businesses to help put down strikes at the factory, for financial support during campaigning. They would also basically have their pick of government. In the 20s this was somewhat still the case, liquor stores and secret bars known as speakeasy’s would bribe officials in exchange for letting them stay open. The government also played a role in trying to get better treatment for workers however this was not in the 20s. Wilson, Coolidge, and Harding didn’t do much. Hoover would lower taxes on big wealthy companies and big businessmen. If you were a big business in the 20s, the government also gave companies more protection for fear of socialism and communism spreading among the workers causing a worker uprising.
