Solution:

Formula for number of subsets in a set of
`n` elements is

Number of subsets =
`2^n` ...(i)

We have,

`R=\{a,b,c\}`

Here, the number of elements are 3. Putting
`n=3` in (i), we get

Number of subsets =
`2^3`

=
`8`

Therefore, the number of subsets is 8 and the subsets are
`\phi,\{a\},\{b\},\{c\},\{a,b\},\{a,c\},\{b,c\}` and
`\{a, b, c\}`.
