Answer: He respects people of any race, and tried his best to defend the innocent black guy Tom Robinson over a false accusation a white girl made even though he knew he was going to lose the case anyway, due to white supremacy and racism being a thing back then. This is heavily implied when he tells scout to shoot all the blue jays she wants (bullies of the bird world), but to never shoot an innocent mockingbird because it is a sin to shoot a bird that doesn’t hurt anyone, similar to how Tom Robinson is innocent but they still make him look like the bad guy and then ends up shooting him to death in prison later on
