The average rate of change between two input values is the total change of the function values (output values) divided by the change in the input values.

\begin{gathered} A=(f(5)-f(1))/(5-1) \\ A=(8-(-4))/(4) \\ A=(12)/(4) \\ A=3 \end{gathered}
\begin{gathered} B=(g(5)-g(1))/(5-1) \\ B=(30-(-2))/(4) \\ B=(32)/(4) \\ B=8 \end{gathered}
\begin{gathered} C=(h(5)-h(1))/(5-1) \\ C=(96-6)/(4) \\ C=22.5 \end{gathered}
