Studies show that the trauma became a part of some of the slaves DNA and is passed on through their descendants; they still feel the pain to this day. Even if that specific DNA wasn't passed on, knowing about the horrors a person's ancestors has gone through is traumatic and unforgettable and still causes people to feel pain. It still affects many people today to know that people could be so cruel that they could enslave and treat fellow human beings the way African slaves were treated during the Atlantic Slave Trade.
