English 3.12 Honors Could the plot of Rebecca make sense if the setting was America in the 21st century? Why or why not? What has changed about our history and culture? What has remained the same?

Answer and Explanation:

The plot for "Rebecca" would make no sense in the 21st century, because our society has a lot of access to information and is less superstitious than the characters shown in "Rebecca." Thus, the detachment from spirituality and disbelief in haunts that modern society presents, prevents this script from being applied so efficiently today, since a main point of this story is the haunting that Rebecca believes she is experiencing.

However, our society has the same lack of trust in relationships that Rebecca felt in hers, living under the shadow of her husband's ex-wife.

"Rebecca" is a gothic novel written by Daphne Du Maurie and tells the story of a woman she caused with a rich and widowed man, but she lives in a disturbed state in the new house where she will live, because she believes that the spirit of the ex-wife is haunting and driving her crazy.
