The connections between the Industrial Revolution and the new imperialism and nationalism of the late 19th and early 20th centuries initiated because powerful nations of that time such as England, France, or the United States became very interested in conquerings and expand their territories. The reason for this was that large industries in their respective countries needed to permanently use mass production to fabricate the goods that had to be traded and exported.

For that to happen, these powerful countries needed raw materials and natural resources that they did not possess abundantly in their respective territories.

That is why they turned to Latin America, the Caribbean, India, and Africa, to expand their dominion and exploit the many raw materials and natural resources in these places.

In the case of European superpowers such as Germany, Great Britain. France, and Belgium, decided to split the African continent in what was known as the "Scramble for Africa," from 1885 to 1914.
