A rectangular piece of paper is 10 inches wide and 16 inches long. What is its perimeter?

Since the paper is rectangular, opposite sides of the paper are congruent.

The perimeter of the paper is given by the sum of all sides, so we have:


\begin{gathered} P=2\cdot length+2\cdot width\\ \\ P=2\cdot16+2\cdot10\\ \\ P=32+20\\ \\ P=52\text{ inches} \end{gathered}

Therefore the perimeter of the paper is 52 inches.
