Lee is planning a square garden with a life-size chessboard in the middle of it, and a walking path all the way around the chessboard. They will be using 2ft by 2ft square stones for each square of the chessboard. (A chessboard is a grid that is eight squares long and eight squares wide.) Their entire chess garden, with the chessboard and the path around it included, will be 676 square feet.

Here is a diagram showing just the chessboard:

How wide is the path around the chessboard in their garden?

Clearly explain your process, including both diagrams and calculations. You should include a description of the problem, how you modeled it using mathematics, and how you answered it using your model.

Not quite sure how I should start to solve this, but I need this done TODAY please.
