What is the equation of the line that passes through the points (-7,0) and is parallel to the line x+y=1?

step 1

Find the slope of the given line

we have

x+y=1

isolate the variable y

y=-x+1

the slope m=-1

step 2

Find the slope of the parallel line to the given line

Remember that

If two lines are parallel, then their slopes are equal

so

the slope of teh parallel line is

m=-1

step 3

find the equation of the parallel line

y=mx+b

we have

m=-1

point (-7,0)

substitute

0=-1(-7)+b

solve for b

0=7+b

b=-7

therefore

the equation of the line uis

y=-x-7
