Given the expression:


18=3(z-8)

notice that we can move the 3 that is multiplying the factor z-8 to the left dividing the constant 18:


\begin{gathered} 18=3(z-8) \\ \Rightarrow(18)/(3)=z-8 \\ \Rightarrow6=z-8 \end{gathered}

now we can add 8 on both sides of the equation to get the following:


\begin{gathered} 6+8=z-8+8 \\ \Rightarrow14=z \end{gathered}

therefore, z = 14
