The following represents a system of equations. 2x + 5y = 2 y = 2x + 10 What is the solution to the system of equations? A. (1, 0) B. (-3, 4) C. (-4, 2) D. (6, -2)

2x + 5y = 2

y = 2x + 10

______________________

Option 1. Replace points in equations

Option 2. Solve the system of equations

_______________________

Option 1. Replace points in equations (the point has to be able to satisfy the equality in the two cases)

A. (1, 0)

2x + 5y = 2; 2* 1+ 5*0 = 2; 2=2

y = 2x + 10; 0= 2*1 +10; 0= 12 (discarded)

B. (-3, 4)

2x + 5y = 2; 2(-3) + 5(4) = 2; -6 +20= ; 14=2 (discarded)

y = 2x + 10;

C. (-4, 2)

2x + 5y = 2; 2(-4) + 5(2) = 2; -8 +10=2; 2=2

y = 2x + 10; 2 = 2(-4) + 10; 2= -8 +10 = 2=2

D. (6, -2)

2x + 5y = 2; 2(6) + 5(-2) = 2; 12-10 = 2

y = 2x + 10; 2 = 2*6 + 10; 2= 22 (discarded)

Option 2. Solve the system of equations

2x + 5y = 2 (I)

y = 2x + 10 (II)

Replacing the second in the first for example

2x + 5( 2x + 10 ) = 2

2x + 10x + 50 = 2

12x = -50+2

x= -48/ 12

x= -4
