Let w be the width of the rectangle.

Let l be the length of the rectangle.

But l = w+4

Also,

\begin{gathered} Perimeter=2\mleft(l+w\mright) \\ 86=2((w+4)+w) \\ 86=2(2w+4) \\ 86=4w+8 \\ \text{Subtract 8 from both sides} \\ 86-8=4w+8-8 \\ 4w=78 \\ \text{Divide both sides by 4 to get} \\ (4w)/(4)=(78)/(4) \\ w=19.5ft \end{gathered}

Width = 19.5ft

Length = 19.5 + 4 = 23.5ft
