Step 1: Problem

Find the area of the figure below.

Step 2: Concept

Divide the figure into a rectangle (A) and a trapezium (B).

Step 3: Method

\begin{gathered} \text{Area of a rectangle A = Length x Breadth} \\ \text{Length = 32m} \\ \text{Breadth = 20m} \\ \text{Area of a rectangle A = 32 }*20=640m^2 \end{gathered}

\begin{gathered} \text{Area of a trapezium B = }(1)/(2)*(s\text{ um of length of the parallel sides) x height} \\ \\ =\text{ }(1)/(2)\text{ }*\text{ ( 16 + 20) x 8} \\ =\text{ }(1)/(2)\text{ }*\text{ 36 x 8} \\ =144m^2 \end{gathered}

Area of the figure = Area of rectangle A + Area of trapezium B

= 640 + 144

= 784
