In order to find the slope of the a line that connects the given points, use the following formula:

m=(y_2-y_1)/(x_2-x_1)

where (x1,y1) and (x2,y2) are the given points.

Replace the following coordinates in the formula for m:

(x1,y1) = (5,-1)

(x2,y2) = (8,-6)

m=(-6-(-1))/(8-5)=(-6+1)/(3)=(-5)/(3)=-(5)/(3)

Hence, the slope is -5/3
