A cylinder has a height of 10 meters and a diameter of 36 meters. What is its volume? Use a ~ 3.14 and round your answer to the nearest hundredth.

Solution

Step 1

Write an expression for the volume(v) of a cylinder


v\text{ = }\pi* r^2* h

Where h = height = 10 meters

r = radius = diameter/2 =36/2 = 18 meters

pi= 3.14

Step 2

Substitute in these values and find the volume of the cylinder


\begin{gathered} v\text{ = 3.14}*18^2*10 \\ v\text{ = 10173.60 to the nearst hundredth} \end{gathered}
