To find the value of x we need to write the equation in another form that tells us what to do; both sides of the equations are ratios then we have:

\begin{gathered} (1)/(2):4=((1)/(2))/(4) \\ \text{ and} \\ (1)/(3):x=((1)/(3))/(x) \end{gathered}

Then the equation is:

((1)/(2))/(4)=((1)/(3))/(x)

Solving for x we have:

\begin{gathered} ((1)/(2))/(4)=((1)/(3))/(x) \\ (1)/(8)=(1)/(3x) \\ 3x=8 \\ x=(8)/(3) \end{gathered}

Therefore, the value of x is 8/3
