Solution

For this case we have two points given :

(-4,0) and (0,-2)

x1= - 4

y1 = 0

x2= 0

y2= -2

Then we can find the slope on this way:

m=(y_2-y_1)/(x_2-x_1)=(-2-0)/(0+4)=(-2)/(4)=-(1)/(2)

the general equation is given by:

y=mx+b

And then the can find the intercept on this way using the point x= -4 and y=0, replacing in the equation we got:

0=-(1)/(2)\cdot(-4)+b

b = -2

And the equation would be given by:

y=-(1)/(2)x-2
