Sean started a lemonade stand for the summer. He puts exactly 6 lemons in each pitcher. If he used 20 lemons, how many pitchers did he make today?

We can solve this problem by applying the rule of three:

\begin{gathered} 6\text{ lemons ----- 1 pitcher} \\ 20\text{ lemons ---- x} \end{gathered}

then, we have

x=((20)(1))/(6)

which gives

\begin{gathered} x=(20)/(6) \\ x=(10)/(3) \end{gathered}

If we convert this result into a mixed fraction form, we have

(10)/(3)=3(1)/(3)

this means that Sean maked 3 and 1/3 pitchers today.
