Given the expression:

2y^6+12y^2-3

since we have the terms 2y^6, 12y^2 and -3, we have that this expression is a trinomial.

Its degree is the hightes exponent on the variables. In this case, the highest exponent is 6, therefore, the trinomial has degree 6
