We are asked to make the graph of the line represented by the equation:

y = 1/2 x + 4

This form of a line is what we call "slope-intercept" form, because it is evident what the value of the slope is, and what the y-intercept is.

The slope is "1/2", and the point on the y-axis where the line crosses it is y = "4".

The easiest way to plot this is to go to the y-axis and mark a dot at the point "4" (for the y-intercept) in that vertical axis.

Then, from that point, you are going to move in the pattern designed by the slope (in our case 1/2) recalling that slope is :"rise"/"run" and that 1/2 then means: move (run) 2 units to the right, and move (rise) 1 unit up. Following the 1/2 indicated by the slope.

So. from the 4 in the y-axis, move to units to the right, and ONE unit UP. So you end up at the point (2, 5). And the final graph is made by joining the points (0, 4) and (2, 5) as shown in the image below:

Please see the two points marked in red. The line MUST go UP not down, because the slope is positive
