$\begin{gathered} \text{Let' s assume the initial side of square is x.} \\ The\text{ final perimeter is=70 in} \\ 4(x+2.5)=70 \\ x+2.5=17.5 \\ x=15 \\ So,\text{ the original side was 15 in.} \end{gathered}$
