Our modern environment may be affecting the endocrine system and reproductive systems in today's young people. Products such as plastics and industrial chemicals are considered endocrine disruptors. Air pollution, pesticides, and other chemicals have a damaging effect on these body systems. How do you think you can protect yourself from being affected from such exposures? What steps should be taken to ensure that people are not overexposed to any harmful substances?

Some ways to protect from the overexposure to the different kind of contaminants that surround us in this modern environment are:

• Try to consume the most organic and home-made food, avoiding ultra-processed and fast food.

,

• Choose hygiene and cleaning products with the less amount of chemicals possible and use them in adequate amounts.

,

• Use responsibly medicaments, especially antibiotics.

,

• Avoid contaminated areas such us water, or regions very close to farms that are fumigated.

,

• Use sunscreen and avoid solar exposure at the high risk hours.

Steps that should be taken to ensure that people are not overexposed to any harmful substances is to regulate by laws the allowed amouns of this substances in the products we consume, and near the places we live. An example of this is the maximum number of x-rays allowed per person a year due to radiation.
