A figure was dilated from center O by a scale factor of r = 5. What scale factor would shrink the dilated figure back to the original size?

scale factor of 5 means it is 5 times bigger.

Suppose the figure was 100.

Now, it is,

100 * 500 = 500

To shrink it back to 100, we would need to:

500 * x = 100

note: 500 times what scale factor (x) we can multiply for it to make 100?

Now,

x = 100/500

x = 1/5

New scale factor needed is:

(1)/(5)
