You have the following situation:

- A tank has 5 gallons of water in it.

- Every minute 3 more gallons of water are added tot he tank until it reaches 35 gallons.

If x is the number of minutes on which gallons of water are added to the tank, 3x is the number of gallon added to the tank after x minutes. If initial number of gallons are 5 gallons, you can write the previous situation in an algebraic way, just as follow;

5+3x=35

the previous expression means:

5 gallons of water plus 3x gallons of water is equal to 35 gallons
