Rainer had $133 and Joel had $57. after they each bought a T-shirt, Rainer had three times as much money left as Joel. The prices of the T-shirts were the same how much did each T-shirt cost?

we have

Reiner had $133

Joel had $57

let x = T-shirt

then, after buying T-shirts:

Reiner = 133 - x

Joel = 57 - x

and Reiner had 3 times Joel had, so


\begin{gathered} 133-x=3(57-x) \\ 133-x=171-3x \\ 133-x+3x=171-3x+3x \\ 133+2x=171 \\ 133+2x-133=171-133 \\ 2x=38 \\ (2x)/(2)=(38)/(2) \\ x=19 \end{gathered}

answer: each T-shirt cost $19
