Use the rate as a ratio and use proportions to find how long it takes to run each distance.

5 miles.

\begin{gathered} (27\min )/(3mil.)=(x)/(5mil.) \\ \frac{5mil\text{.}\cdot27\min }{3mil\text{.}}=x \\ x=45\min \end{gathered}

8 miles.

\begin{gathered} \frac{27\min}{3mil\text{.}}=\frac{x}{8mil\text{.}} \\ \frac{8mil\text{.}\cdot27\min }{3mil\text{.}}=x \\ x=72\min \end{gathered}

11 miles.

\begin{gathered} \frac{27\min }{3mil\text{.}}=\frac{x}{11mil\text{.}} \\ \frac{11mil\text{.}\cdot27\min }{3mil\text{.}}=x \\ x=99\min \end{gathered}

16 miles.

\begin{gathered} \frac{27\min}{3mil\text{.}}=\frac{x}{16mil\text{.}} \\ \frac{16mil\text{.}\cdot27\min }{3mil\text{.}}=x \\ x=144\min \end{gathered}

It takes 45, 72, 99 and 144 minutes to run 5, 8, 11 and 16 miles, respectively.
