Given:

Point 1 ( -4, 1)

Point 2 ( 4, -3)

Required:

Point-slope form of the equation of the line

Solution:

y-y_1=m(x-x_1)
m=(y_2-y_1)/(x_2-x_1)=(-3-1)/(4-(-4))=\frac{-4}{4+4_{}_{}}=(-4)/(8)=-(1)/(2)

Point 1 ( -4, 1), m = -1/2

\begin{gathered} y-y_1=m(x-x_1) \\ y-1=-(1)/(2)\lbrack x-(-4)\rbrack \\ y-1=-(1)/(2)(x+4) \end{gathered}

Answer:

B)\text{ }y-1=-(1)/(2)(x+4)
