Apply cross multiplication;

Now, add 5 on both side as;

`\begin{gathered} 3x-5+5=-14+5 \\ 3x=-9 \end{gathered}`

Divide both side by 3;

`\begin{gathered} (3x)/(x)=-(9)/(3) \\ x=-3 \end{gathered}`
