We have to calculate the area of the parallelogram.

The area is equal to the base times the height.

The base will be the length of one of the sides we choose.

The height will be the distance between the side we have chosen as base and its parallel side.

That is why in this case it is better to use the longer side, with length 36 in., as base because we already have the height: h = 33 in.

NOTE: the length of the other side is not used to calculate this area if we already know the height.

We then calculate the area as:

\begin{gathered} A=b\cdot h \\ A=36\cdot33 \\ A=1188 \end{gathered}

Answer: the area is 1188 in²

First blank: 1188

Second blank: in^2
